Projects
Under the Mizoram State Tobacco Control Society (MSTCS) there are different projects which are undertaken for more effective tobacco control initiative in the state. These projects are as follows-
- WHO Tobacco Cessation Centre (TCC):
The World Health Organization in partnership with India created a system for systematic tobacco cessation services in India. This project was implemented in Mizoram from 31st 2005, which led Mizoram to be the 18th centre of its kind in India. This project is undertaken by the society, and its work is concentrated in the area of assisting tobacco users to tobacco cessation. It is set up in the Civil Hospital, Aizawl. A personnel trained in this area is working full time in the centre during normal Out Patient Department hours. This centre also covers in- patients admitted to the Hospital. From date of inauguration he TCC has been functioning full fled for tobacco cessation services for the people of Mizoram.
- National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP):
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of India took the initiative to reduce tobacco use by implementing this project in India. Mizoram adopted this project for effective tobacco control initiative strategy in the state at two districts namely Aizawl West and Lunglei districts from May 2009. From date of inauguration the NTCP has been functioning full fled for tobacco control initiatives and cessation services for the people of Mizoram.
